Crayola Mediums = Crayola Artbook = Crayola Art Supplies.

I've had four people today tell me that they may have to back out "because I don't use Crayola products". As you can imagine, this is not sitting well with me, considering I have stated this in every journal entry, which basically amounts to people not reading the available information and then getting all surprised and/or disappointed and/or upset when they find out differently (which I can't help). I'm trying to be as transparent as possible and make sure people have the information they need to make an informed choice about whether or not to participate in this venture, but if it's not read or is just glanced over... I can't help that.

Every one of the four people today that have told me they may have to back out have been artists I invited to participate in the artbook. I stated in the invite notes that "the artbook will feature artworks made with Crayola products". I used one invite for the 120+ artists I sent invites to - and I have every single one of them saved in my Notes folder. So I know for a fact I said that in the invites (I checked).

Crayola products are not expensive. I know a lot of you don't use Crayola products, but I'm getting things from "only kids use Crayola" to "I'm a -real- artist, and real artists use the expensive stuff".
Note #1: If you're a "real" artist and can use the expensive stuff, the cheap stuff should be easy, shouldn't it? I mean, I know Crayola crayons are more waxy then the expensive ones but... I dunno, I've never used any of the expensive stuff because I don't feel I'm good enough to use them yet. I can see there being an adjustment between the two different kinds, but surely it can be worked through.
Note #2: If you can't find Crayola products in your country, or don't have time to search for products/learn to use a product you're not familiar with, that's something else entirely.
Note #3: If you can't afford to buy Crayola products on top of your normal products, or have too many of the higher quality ones laying around and don't want to add to that, that's different too.
Note #4: Of course, the less artists we have, the more submissions each artist can have in the book.

This is a charity artbook. No one will be making any money off of this, except for the printer who will be printing the art books. I will not be making anything, artists are not getting paid, I will not be hiring any paid staff. It breaks my heart that so few people are willing to participate in this artbook once they find out it's Crayola products only. If you don't believe that people can make quality artwork with Crayola products, you really need to do a search here on dA for Crayola. One amazing Crayola crayon artist is LemiaCrescent, but there are dozens of others.

If you have not yet - READ ALL THE ENTRIES IN THIS GROUP'S JOURNAL. You can click on Journal at the top of the group's profile page to reach them, or you can click the links at the top of every journal entry. I will no longer be responding to questions that you can find the answers to in one (usually you can find the same answers in two or three entries) of the six journal entries (one of which is a Frequently Asked Questions!!). I will also not be sympathetic if you get upset after finding out something during a conversation with me that you should have known already if you had read the available information. At that point it's on you, not me, for not making sure you have taken advantage of the available information.

I'm sorry for sounding harsh, but given the fact we will probably be losing some artists because they won't/can't/refuse to use Crayola products/didn't read the parts where it said they had to use Crayola products, I am not feeling as enthused as I was. I am now worried that we will be losing quite a few of our artists, and that makes my heart hurt. :(

So if any of you are no longer wanting to do the artbook because of the Crayola products restriction (which has been in place since I started recruiting artists back in November for this): please send me a Note requesting to be removed from the Accepted Artists List.

I haven't used Crayola since I was a kid. I do use Prismacolor mostly but once I made it on that list I bought myself a 50 pack of Crayola Colored Pencils. Tried them out on a pic to come up with some form of technique since they are very different. It is sad that some artists have or are dropping out because of the product but I am sure you will have more people willing to challenge them selves and have a go at your charity. Just keep your head up and be positive.
